I Can't Believe It's Over

“Today is the day, it’s all over now.” These lines summarize all too well my feelings after the fall play I Never Saw Another Butterfly by Celeste Raspanti concluded on the 10th after a fabulous 2 weekend run. The play’s dark subject matter, the Holocaust, was one of the big factors that made this such a remarkable experience. I have been in six other productions at the school, but this will always hold a special place in my heart. Me and my friends always joke that the life of a high school actor is very tough. As the director, Mr. Marvin always says, “We will never have this same group of people doing this show again.” We prepare for three months, investing many hours, bonding closer with every moment, for five performances. Five performances, with the director’s choice to limit the seating to 100, that’s only 500 people seeing it max (not accounting for no-shows and repeats). That’s crazy! But we put all this energy into and the reward is astonishing. Now all the theater kids are in a lull, because we are in the thick of the two week break from the play to the musical. The Wiz! The Wiz! The Wiz! I am so excited, ah, people have no idea. I grew up on the Wiz and my dream role is the Cowardly Lion, but I’ll take anything. At least for these two weeks I get to catch up on sleep! But even after the play ends, we all still maintain the friendships we made! What a wonderful path I have chosen!
