Thanksgiving

Today is the last day of Thanksgiving break and I cannot believe it went by so fast! The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving were very busy at school academically and athletically, and the long break was much needed. Between the Hurricane days, the end of the fall sports season, and the end of the first quarter, the past few weeks have been crazy! With such a busy schedule, it was hard to remember to be thankful or happy, but after a few days of relaxation, I realized how much I have to be thankful for at SSSAS. We have a great school community, great teachers, great classes, and great school spirit. I cannot think of any place I would rather have spent the past two years in high school, and even all of my years in school. I am so thankful to have a school where I know I am learning and growing as a student, and I am always supported by teachers and classmates. To be a part of the SSSAS community is something to be thankful for, because I always feel accepted and I always feel at home.

Thanksgiving Service

This year was my last year being apart of the annual All-School Thanksgiving Service.  This is one of my favorite events at the school because its the only chance that the entire school meets in one room to give thanks for each other and everything that has happened for us in the year.  This year was especially exciting because I'm a senior, and this means I get a kindergarten buddy!!  We sit with them and help them through the prayers and songs, and we also give them a special pin, that many of my classmates who are lifers still posses. The look on their faces when they walk in with us is totally PRICELESS!! Thanksgiving is by far one of my favorite holidays!

Catherine

Hello! My name is Catherine and I am senior here at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School. Other than being an Admission Ambassador Captain, I am involved in our school's performing arts and athletics. I am part of the chorus, part of our female a cappella group Sextet, two year director of the handbell choir, and a cast member of the annual spring musicals. I also play on our Varsity Tennis team, run for the Track team, and ski race outside of school. I love the variety of activities SSSAS provides and I have definitely tried to take advantage of them during my time here. If I had one piece of advice in coming to any high school, try new activities-it never hurts to have a variety of experiences. I hope you will be trying these activities here at SSSAS!

Leah

Hello, my name is Leah and I am a senior. I have been at SSSAS since the seventh grade and have participated in many different aspects of the school including chorus, drama, athletics, and numerous clubs.  As I have grown and matured through the years, I am highly appreciative of the great community that SSSAS has provided me. I feel fully prepared to enter college and begin my long journey called life.  The students and teachers here will forever leave an imprint on my lifestyle and choices. The community is also more than supportive: on the athletic field there are always fans, in the theater there is always an audience, and classroom achievements are always recognized! There is absolutely no better place to be than St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School.

I Can't Believe It's Over

“Today is the day, it’s all over now.” These lines summarize all too well my feelings after the fall play I Never Saw Another Butterfly by Celeste Raspanti concluded on the 10th after a fabulous 2 weekend run. The play’s dark subject matter, the Holocaust, was one of the big factors that made this such a remarkable experience. I have been in six other productions at the school, but this will always hold a special place in my heart. Me and my friends always joke that the life of a high school actor is very tough. As the director, Mr. Marvin always says, “We will never have this same group of people doing this show again.” We prepare for three months, investing many hours, bonding closer with every moment, for five performances. Five performances, with the director’s choice to limit the seating to 100, that’s only 500 people seeing it max (not accounting for no-shows and repeats). That’s crazy! But we put all this energy into and the reward is astonishing. Now all the theater kids are in a lull, because we are in the thick of the two week break from the play to the musical. The Wiz! The Wiz! The Wiz! I am so excited, ah, people have no idea. I grew up on the Wiz and my dream role is the Cowardly Lion, but I’ll take anything. At least for these two weeks I get to catch up on sleep! But even after the play ends, we all still maintain the friendships we made! What a wonderful path I have chosen!

Tre

Hello, my name is TréVaughn, but you can call me Tré! This is my eighth year at SSSAS, and I have had a blast and become a totally new person since I came here as a fourth grader. Now in my junior year, I am now starting to realize how pivotal my mom’s choice to send me here actually was, and how I would not want to have it any other way. I have met my best friend here and I have expanded my education father then ever expected. I am in AP English, Spanish 4 Honors, Chorus, Pre-Calculus, Biology, and History, and I am an active member in the drama company at the school Stage One Players, with me acting in seven productions. I would love to go to college at NYU of Fordham, but I would be content going anywhere in New York. I love singing and acting, and I also love Math, and this school is a great place to foster and grow your passion for anything! I also started a club called Movie Critics Club, and we go to the movie theaters to see new films to discuss them. My older Brother graduated two years ago, and he loved too. If you want to find me I’ll be the one smiling in the hallway!

Brett

Hello everyone! My name is Brett and I am a senior.  I have attended St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School since 9th grade, and from the moment when I first stepped onto campus, I have felt welcomed and appreciated by my peers as well as by the entire faculty and administration.  That’s the kind of community you’ll find at SSSAS—warm, open, diverse, and accommodating to the interests and passions of every member.  Teachers love to see their students work hard at their subject, and as a result not only succeed in, but enjoy the topics discussed.  Students can craft their own extracurricular pursuits; if it weren’t for the countless opportunities available at SSSAS, for example, I would not be living my dream of sports broadcasting as I give play-by-play commentary for an assortment of varsity sports!

Speaking of my particular activities, I serve on the Student Council Association (SCA) and have done so since freshman year.  I am the Co-President of both the QuizBowl trivia club (watch me on It’s Academic!! www.itsacademicquizshow.com for more information) and French Club (Le Cercle Français for all you francophiles out there) and am also a member of the Latin and Environmental Clubs.  And most importantly, I try to promote overall appreciation for what SSSAS provides for every student: a sound, well-rounded education, a community which nurtures its every unique member, an enthusiasm for many facets of life, and the confidence to enter the “ever-changing” world mentally, physically, and spiritually prepared.  I welcome you to our community and hope you experience my same fulfillment.  ’Til next time, GO SAINTS!!!

Graham

Meet Graham, a junior at SSSAS.
Hello, my name is Graham and I am a junior here at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School. I have been at the school since the 6th grade, and I have three younger siblings all of whom attend SSSAS. St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School has allowed to find my passions in all aspects of my life. I have developed a love for Chemistry during my time in the high school, as well as English, which are my two favorite subjects. Outside of the classroom, I play Lacrosse and Ice Hockey. I am also a member of the Saints Action Team, which is a community service club. I also participate in Model OAS, or the organization of American States. While I enjoy most of my time here at SSSAS, my favorite time of year is the Sleepy Thompson Basketball tournament, which is a huge basketball tournament in February, where our whole school comes out to and it is a really fun environment to be in. I have had a great experience here at SSSAS because of the incredible number of opportunities I have had at this school, and it has allowed me to explore many things I never would have been able to do at another school!

Mollye

Meet Mollye, a junior at SSSAS.My name is Mollye and I am a junior at SSSAS. I have been attending SSSAS since Junior Kindergarten, and I have loved every minute of my time here. As an SSSAS student, I can say I feel that I am a part of a warm, welcoming community, and I cannot think of a better place to have spent the past twelve years. Here, the student body is diverse, but because of its size, I know each and every student and teacher. Individually, I have found my place at the high school, and I know there is a place for every student. Academically, my favorite classes are my science classes. Though it is challenging, AP Chemistry is my favorite class. I want to be a doctor, and every science teacher I have had has been engaging and supportive, even when I feel like I do not understand the material. In addition to Chemistry, my other favorite class is Spanish. With our language program, I feel like  I could go into the Spanish speaking world comfortably. Though these are my two favorite classes, I love every single class because of our wonderful teachers and small class sizes. Outside of the classroom, I play tennis and run track and field. Other than sports, I am a co-president of Epilepsy Awareness Club, a member of Model OAS, and I volunteer every Sunday at Georgetown University Hospital.
